VOLUNTEER

VOLUNTEER

Roll up your sleeves and help fight local hunger by donating your time and energy! We are in desperate need of volunteers to provide critical support in alleviating hunger in the Texas Panhandle. Before the pandemic, volunteers provided more than 50-thousand hours of help to the food bank annually. However, volunteer support plummeted 64% to less than 18-thousand volunteer hours during a prolonged pandemic that catapulted a growing number of neighbors into food insecurity.

Check out the volunteer experiences available below and register now to be a part of providing food for today and hope for tomorrow for our neighbors struggling with food insecurity.

WAREHOUSE SORTING AND PACKING

Volunteers inspect, sort, and repack donated food, so it can be distributed across the Texas Panhandle. Work together to sort and/or pack nonperishable food items to help us distribute it out to neighbors in need in the 29 counties that we serve.

THE GARDEN AT HPFB

Garden volunteers will perform a variety of tasks required to maintain the Garden and help it flourish: planting, harvesting, composting, pulling weeds, feeding animals, and hunting for pests. Expect to bend, get a little dirty, and soak up some sun. Please bring your own gloves if you have them, a bottle of water (we will provide the refills), and sunscreen. Remember to dress appropriately for the weather and wear closed-toed shoes.

MOBILE HARVEST

Mobile Harvest is a program of the High Plains Food Bank which aims to minimize food waste and empower healthy choices in food insecure households by providing access to nutritious fruits and vegetables for free. Twice a week, we fill up our food truck with any produce that’s available and distribute it farmer’s market-style at our partnering agencies.
