Our Programs
Senior Adult Foor Program
The Senior Adult Food Program (CSFP) provides nutritious, supplemental food to low-income seniors aged 60 and over who meet USDA income guidelines. Eligible seniors receive a 25–30-pound box of shelf-stable groceries, including canned fruits, vegetables, proteins, and a 2-pound block of cheese. Monthly distributions are held across various locations, with the opportunity to enroll on-site with proper ID. The program partners with local agencies and rural sites to ensure food access for seniors in need, helping supplement their diets with healthy food options at no cost.
KIDS CAFE
Kids Cafe, a program of Feeding America, prepares, delivers, and serves healthy weekday meals to at-risk students and some vulnerable senior adults. Kids Cafe provides an early dinner each weekday, so children don’t have to go home hungry. Kids Cafe confronts childhood hunger by providing nutritious, balanced meals that meet USDA guidelines. These meals are prepared and delivered using the highest quality and safety standards. Meals are provided without charge and are the same for all children, regardless of race, color, national origin, sex, age, or disability. Kids Cafe also provides weekday meals for at-risk senior adults who need consistent daily nutrition and fellowship at handful of apartment complexes.
BENEFIT ASSISTANCE
HPFB offers SNAP, CHIP, Medicaid and TANF application assistance through our social services program. Staff members help individuals with the daunting application process for these benefits. The Social Services Department also helps with referrals to area agencies for other needs that clients might have such as rent and utility assistance, medical, and other immediate basic needs. The team’s goal is to help clients obtain future self-sufficiency. Please fill out the form below for inquiries or to schedule an appointment.
THE EMERGENCY FOOD ASSISTANCE PROGRAM
The Texas Department of Agriculture (TDA) actively backs local food banks and pantries through the Emergency Food Assistance Program (TEFAP).
This program not only provides essential nourishment to those in need but also supports the nation’s agricultural producers.
THE GARDEN
The Garden is an urban farm that serves as a community classroom to teach gardening basics and nutrition education. Utilizing strategic ecosystems, the Garden maximizes the use of each resource, providing a practical and sustainable model for individual gardeners to follow. The Garden focuses on community outreach– equipping students, apartment residents, and homeowners alike with the training needed to grow fresh, healthy food on a budget.
MOBILE HARVEST PROGRAM
In 2018, the Garden launched its Mobile Harvest Program, which provides fresh produce to high need areas of our community. In addition, the Garden continued to support multiple community garden sites to help provide healthy organic produce to area food deserts. The Garden at High Plains Food Bank is offering a drive-through produce distribution, based on availability at 3 weekly sites:
Nutrition Education
At HPFB, our goal is to alleviate hunger in the Panhandle, which requires us to take steps beyond providing food. Educating consumers about healthy living habits allows for a higher probability of self-sufficiency and greater food security.
